FRAYN/OJASOO/SEMPER

Farce, believe it or not

The comedy "Noises Off!" by Michael Frayn can be analyzed in various ways: joke as a liberating category, which abolishes all kinds of hierarchies (Mihhail Bahtin), "joke" is also one part of the "Rough Theatre" definition (Peter Brook), but joke can also be a conceptual work of art, which revokes taboos (Marcel Duchamp, Pinot-Gallizio, Asger Jorn), it can be also a tool for making social critique (Charlie Chaplin), some jokes can be useful in order to undermine the normative values (Hal Foster).

"The "Noises Off!" by Theatre NO99 has the same number of different layers as the manual training of an ax."
