premiere: the red balloonKonrad wakes up one morning and discovers that he is all alone in his apartment in the city. He has not left his apartment for many years already. Why go out? Better to sit between four walls than to go to the four winds. Yet now Konrad has to go out into the city. He cautiously opens the door and steps out into the unknown.
On December 3 will premiere "The Red Balloon" by our guest director Mart Kampus. The production is inspired by the Albert Lamorisse film The Red Balloon (1956).
new: no39 mother courageOur freshest production is by very known Estonian film director Veiko Õunpuu. It is his second production in theatre and at NO99. He will bring on stage Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage.
One of Brecht’s most important plays, Mother Courage tells us the story of a merchant who is also a mother of three children who are approaching adulthood. They find themselves in the tumult of war in an imaginary 17th century. The mother must make choices. She always wishes to choose survival but ends up with death every time.
ene-liis semper new artistic directorEne-Liis Semper will continue as artistic director of Theatre NO99 with Tiit Ojasoo contuining as director. This decision came after Tiit Ojasoo was subject of disproportionate and unrelenting public and political pressure for a personal conflict incident involving him. In the face of such pressure calling for his dismissal and that of Theatre NO99's council, Ojasoo chose to resign. Concurrently, the actors of Theatre NO99 publicly expressed discontent with the incommensurate pressure the theatre was subject to in its decisions. Eero Epner, long time dramaturg of Theatre NO99, will replace Tiit Ojasoo as Member of the Board of Theatre NO99.
production NO42 by ene-liis semper!
Incurable insatiability is the underlying urge that drives man. Nothing is ever enough, no boundaries hold for ever. Ene-Liis Semper's new work takes the audience onto a rough trip to the darker side of craving. Exploring the pardoxes inherent in the human condition, „El Dorado: The Clowns' Raid of Destruction“ creates a theatrical language of its own that is both visually stunning and unrelenting in terms of the level of energy on stage.
